Moville Musician

Moville Singer / Songwriter, Sean Hiboy, has recently returned from a European Tour which saw him travelling through Switzerland and Germany in support of German Artist Michael Moravek.

Hiboy first met Moravek in 2013 during Moville’s annual Dylanfest organised by local man Gerry McLaughlin.

Says Sean, ’Michael was playing a great set of Dylan tunes with top class Violinist Kerstin Becker in the Sean Ti in Greencastle and we got chatting and he invited me up to play a few songs and we ended up playing the 2014 festival as a Duo and have been friends ever since’.

Most Creative German Artists

Moravek has been described by critics as ‘one of the most creative Artists’ currently working Germany and the recent Tour was in support of his first solo album entitled ‘In Transit (Is What We Are)’ which has been described as a ‘beautiful album by a great writer’.

Hiboy opened each Concert nightly with a highly charged and warmly received set of original songs before joining Moravek’s band the Planeausters as Mandolin Player.

One of the many highlights of the Tour for Hiboy was playing with Waterboy’s Fiddler Steve Wickham who guests on two tracks on Moravek’s album.

Said Sean, ‘Michael first introduced me to Steve backstage after a brilliant Waterboy’s Gig in Galway a while back so it was great to meet up again and get to play together with him and Michael’s band the Planeausters who really took Michael’s music to another level every night’.

Shared Stage with Glen Hansard

Hiboy, who in the past has shared stages with Glen Hansard at St. John’s Theatre Listowel and the 4 of Us at Moville’s inaugural and very successful Jewelboxfest last Summer, was very impressed by the attentive nature of the German audiences who sang along nightly in response to his set and given the warm reception he has been invited back by Promoters for a return trip in the Summer both to perform and record original material for inclusion in his first solo album which he is currently working on.

The Musicians travelled through a number of towns including Ravensburg and Ulm the birthplace of Albert Einstein before finishing up in Moravek’s hometown of Balingen on the banks of the River Danube in a famous local Irish Bar called ‘The Bear’ where an enthusiastic crowd came out to hear them play despite the -6 degrees temperature outside.

In summing up the experience Hiboy says ‘as a musician you could’nt ask for more than to be travelling through beautiful countryside playing with great musicians in wonderful venues to audiences who really listened and appreciated every Song every night though we could have done without the freezing conditions I’m looking forward to going back in the Summer and doing it all again’.
