Maguire's
Poker (Texas Holdem)
If there is Champions League football they have it on a very big screen
Wednesday
Rawdon's Quiz
This is in aid of the Donegal Hospice and it has been going on every Wednesday for several years. It is supposed to start at 9:30 but it is usually nearer 10:30 before it begins.
It is a great night in midweek but it all has a purpose and several large cheques (quite literally) have been handed over to the Donegal Hospice.
The quizmaster will be Bryan McDonad.
Texas Holdem at Rosato's
This is (to me) surprisingly well attended for a Wednesday night. On average there are usually about 15 players.
I don't play myself but have been in there when they have been playing.
It seems that it costs 10 Euros to get in and the winner takes all. I think you can 'buy in' once if you get knocked out. From memory (and Eddie Harkins is on holiday) I think you have to pay either 5 or 10 Euros to get back in.
They play at usually two or three tables and then, when some people have been knocked out, those still in play at one table till a winner emerges. The winner takes the lot.
I'm sorry I can't give you a greater insight but I gave up poker at school because I was useless at it.
They all seem to enjoy it, though, and some stay for a drink afterwards, although I see others doing the 'walk of shame' as they pass me going out the door.
Maguire's
If Champions League football is on it will be on the big screen here.
Thursday
Maguire's
they have a Dart's Team there who play in a league. They play every 2nd week at home.
Chess - Rosato's
Oh! And I almost forgot.
You can play chess any night of the week there. Eddie Harkins is a big chess enthusiast and has two chess sets behind the bar for anyone who wants to play.
It seems Eddie was a bit of a child prodigy at school winning the Gold Medal at Chess in both of his final two years and winning the bronze and silver in the previous two years despite being younger than many of the others.
It seems that he is the second best player in Moville at Chess.
Other Pubs
If there are things happening during the week at other pubs please let me know. I haven't left them out deliberately but only because I don't know about them.
