Moville Sports & Fun Day
The first Sports and Fun day for years in Moville took place on Sunday from 2pm till about 6pm.
It was a big success.
There were several hundred people there to see it.
Great Day
They had a great day for it too with the sun shining throughout - which has been quite unusual recently.
Indeed the Moville Summer Festival had very bad luck with the weather.
There was also very good participation in all the events.
I had a go at a few things myself that weren't too energetic but my main use was to feed my son a constant stream of money for the events.
Races
There were races for all ages and I tok a few photographs, some of which caught the climax of the events and some which just missed it.
If the finale of your race isn't here it is probably because I screwed up the camera work.
It's good to see the ongoing revival of Moville as a Holiday and Fun Town.
Fortune Teller
There was a huge queue at the Fortune Teller's tent all through but I thought it might be wise not to take any photos of the line-up.
Don't they know it's all rubbish?
Pole Fighting
One event that was very successful was the Pole Fighting.
This didn't involve fighting with poles at all (or lithuanians) but with heavy pillow like things.
The youngsters fairly loved bashing each other off the horizontal pole.
Passing Fancy
I had a go at passing a ball into a small net from about 20 yards.
It looked very easy but I got 2/5 when I tried it and 1/5 when I tried it later.
The Nappy Hanging Competition looked a lot of fun as they all took turns at hanging up about 10 nappies on a line with pegs.
Good Food
There was lots of fine fare with people bringing along cakes and sandwiches.
I think I was also first to try throwing the lifebelts onto the cones.
The less said about that the better.
Wellie Throwing
The wellie throwing competition looked a lot of fun.
It basically involved throwing a load of different size wellies into a small trailer from about 15 yards.
Just next to it was the horseshoe throwing competition.
Popular
A very popular sideshow was paying €2 to be able to throw wet sponges at the Moville Celtic officials.
You can see one direct hit in our picture.
All in all it was a great day out and those that turned out had a lot of fun.
Competition
They had to compete with three big football matches on TV involving such as Celtic, Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea.
There are very good signs of the regeneration of Moville as a holiday and fun town.
Wouldn't that be great!
