Inish Times

The Inish Times has a new editor this week.

It's John Grant, 39, who is from Derry but whose father was from Buncrana.

His mother is from Newtoncunningham.

Previous Positions

He was already a journalist with the Inish Times.

Previously he had been a Daily Ireland features editor, Irish Star sub-editor, Daily Mail reporter and Garda Times editor.

Gerry McGeehan Story

John Grant was the guy who broke the story in the Inish Times about the Principal of Scoil Eoghain, Gerry McGeehan, saying that there was a snob value about parents sending their children to the Gael Scoil.

There was a lot of publicity about it at the time with Gerry going onto Highland radio to deny that he had said it.

The story got national attention being in one of the national newspapers.

Highly Successful

The Inish Times has been highly successful since being taken over and has both dramatically upped its readership and its advertising income.

I asked new editor John if there would be any policy change at the Inish Times. He said "The Inish Times will continue to provide off-diary, exclusive news and sport stories for the peninsula. Thanks to increased sales and advertising revenue, Inish Times intends to increase, yet again, the number of pages soon."
