Moville's BeatleFest
I was trying to keep it a little quiet till after the Moville Summer Festival is over to give them the field to themselves in terms of publicity but it appears to be starting to be leaking out.
The BeatlesFest in Moville is on.
The dates are the 14th, 15th and 16th of September which is the Friday, Saturday and Sunday - so don't go away for the weekend if you like Beatles music.
Background Work
It is early stages in terms of the planning but I've already set up a MySpace site to give out information about it. You can see it here at BeatlesFest
The six pubs that were involved for the DylanFest are all interested again and there may be more pubs involved this time.
Musical Acts
As far as the musical acts are concerned it is a bit slower this time in terms of getting them on board.
I'm not keen to have too many tribute bands who come for the evening of their booking and then leave the next morning.
The headline acts at the DylanFest like The Phantom Enginners, The Chris Doran Band, The New Fools from Belgium and Steph Buhe from France all hung around all weekend and many brought a crowd with them like The Phantom Engineers.
Too Dear
I've had a few Beatles Tribute bands who want to play, including one who want to come across from the USA.
However the cost is from €2,000 to €5,000.
I'm not sure that we can come up with that.
Affordable but Not Right
The others that have been affordable want to play their own stuff with some Beatles numbers - but that's no good at a BeatlesFest.
However, we have plenty of time left and I haven't even started the publicity drive yet to get the news out.
I'll leave the floor to the Strippendales etc. at the Moville Summer Festival.
The pubs' concentration is on that anyway at the moment.
It is the background spadework that is going on anyway for the BeatlesFest.
First Ever DylanFest
For the DylanFest I was able to claim that it was Ireland's first ever DylanFest (which it was).
That was what helped it get a whole load of publicity in the local papers like the Derry Journal, Inish Times and Inishowen Independent as well as the Donegal News which attracted a whole load of people from Letterkenny.
It also helped get it publicity on the Dave Fanning Show, Downtown Radio and Foyle Radio amongst others as well as being in the Daily Mirror, Daily Star etc.
Only Current BeatlesFest
I won't be able to claim that this time for the BeatlesFest.
There was a BeatlesFest in Dublin for three years from 1998-2000.
I contacted the organiser, though, and he told me it died a death.
No Others
There are currently no other annual BeatlesFests in Ireland.
That means that what we have here is Ireland's only current BeatlesFest.
Hopefully that will qualify us for a bit of publicity.
There's a bit of work to be done.
Just for the Craic
In case anybody thinks I'm making a fortune out of this I do it just for the craic (and a little publicity for my site).
I actually lost money on the DylanFest (but won't make that mistake again).
