Moville Summer Festival

The row over the booking of the male strippers for the Movile Summer Festival at the Bar-A-Cuda has escalated after the story was published on Page 5 of the Derry Journal on Tuesday of this week.

The Festival organisers are putting distance between themselves and the Bar-A-Cuda saying that the bar owners booked their own Festival acts.

It has been included on the Festival brochure in the schedule of events.

However, a festival organiser has told the Journal that it will now be taken off the website.

Strippendales

The Strippendales are appearing at the Bar-A-Cuda on the Thursday of the Festival on August 2nd.

Councillor Marian McDonald has condemned the booking of the Strippendales telling the Journal that "A show involving male strippers is certainly not in keeping with a family-oriented Festival".

She said "It is too bad that visitors coming into the town should be subjected to this form of entertainment".

Moville People Against

Marian also told the Journal that "I think the majority of people in the town would be against such an event".

So are they?

A spot check of around twenty or so people that I've asked ( in shops, hairdressers, houses and pubs) seemed to suggest that they are more amused than anything else and are taking it in their stride.

Festival Publicity

Some are saying that it there's no such thing as bad publicity and it appears to be the only publicity so far that the Moville Summer Festival is getting, although I'm told that the Journal will be publishing photos of the candidates for the Festival Queen.

Reverend Young told the Journal "I certainly don't like the idea of a strip show in our town. I think it is very unfortunate indeed".

The Festival runs from August 1st to the 6th.
