McGettigans DylanFest Musicians
James O'Connor, Audrey Trainor and William Byrne came up from Dunlaoghaire for the DylanFest and were very well received by an appreciative Movilel audience.
They played McGettigans and William Byrne played Maguires too.
Come On Back
They went down so well that Danny and Mary McGettigan invited them back up for the Moville Summer Festival.
They played there after the Car Treasure Hunt which also took place in McGettigans.
Controversy
There had been a little bit of controversy during the announcement of the results of the Car Treasure Hunt.
One of the clues was to lead to the memorial outside the Marintime Museum in Greencastle.
Particpants were to give the number of sailors who perished (according to the inscription).
Protest
The answer was given as 50 - which led to a protest.
According to those protesting the result it had said that the captain (or whatever) and 50 members of his crew went down which they said made 51.
From what I could make out 51 was then given as well but the MC still said it was only 50 who perished.
He cam back later and breaking in between songs he announced that indeed 50 had perished. He explained that one of the crew members had been sick.
Music
Many of the audience stayed to hear the Dunlaoghaire players.
They started off playing Irish Traditional music but later on played modern folk music of the Dob Dylan / Neil Young variety as well as playing some rebel songs on request.
They really got the audience going.
They were ably assisted by one of the members of the audience's rythmic clapping.
Delighted
The audience were delighted by the peformance and McGettigans was reelin' 'n' rockin'.
They are playing again in McGettigan's tonight and Monday night and are playing in the Foyle Hotel on Saturday night.
