Moville's BeatlesFest

Moville is abuzz with excitement as the weekend of Ireland's only Festival of Beatles music draws nearer. It follows on from the highly successful DylanFest in Moville at the end of June. The big event will take place on the weekend of the 14th to the 16th of September. The people of Moville are looking forward to welcoming visitors over the big weekend.

Six pubs will be sponsoring the event and hiring Beatles acts. They are the Bar-A-Cuda, Foyle Hotel, Rosatos, Waterfront, Town Clock and Maguires.

Not only will there be a host of top musical performers floating about Moville that weekend but there will also be film crews as well. KillerSnail Film Productions along with a team of Music technology students will be filming the event and perhaps creating a fly-on-the-wall documentary of the BeatlesFest.

They will also be interviewing the musical acts and recording them playing a song or two in a getaway area in Rosato's open air bit out the back. There is even a possibility of the bands playing a song or two for the film crew and audience on the roof out the back of Rosatos's which at a BeatlesFest will be particularly apt.

Looking Forward To It

Said organiser Gerry McLaughlin”If it's half as good as the DylanFest everyone's going to have a really great time. I know I enjoyed it thoroughly. I've had loads of people from Moville coming up to me and saying that they are really looking forward to it too. The film crew and the documentary will give it an added dimension and hopefully put Moville on the map as a fun town and great holiday destination. The DylanFest was great but Ireland's first ever DylanFest is gone forever as it wasn't filmed or recorded. We don't want that to happen to the BeatlesFest too”.

Said Eddie Harkin of Rosatos pub “The success of the DylanFest took everyone by surprise. We are all hoping that the BeatlesFest is every bit as good and that we get a good weekend for it”.

Said Michael Murphy of the Bar-A-Cuda which is the main sponsor of the BeatlesFest “We are delighted to have got Henry McCullough ex of Paul McCartney's Wings to come along and play and I bet he can tell some stories in his Question & Answer session during his gig. I'm also looking forward to putting on ODi from Leeds and all other acts that we have”.

Schedule

Music will start in four pubs on the Friday night. On the Saturday it will start again at 2pm and go on into the wee small hours and will start up again at 2pm on Sunday. Each night has a Beatles related theme. Friday night is Come Together night. Saturday Afternoon is Getting Better afternoon. Saturday night is A Hard days Night. Sunday afternoon is Day Tripper afternoon and Sunday night which has some Open Mics after the bands have finished is With A Little Help From My Friends night.

Bands Playing the BeatlesFest in Moville

Henry McCullough of Wings fame has agreed to play the BeatlesFest in Moville with his 6-piece band at the Bar-A-Cuda. Paul McCartney only played in two bands – The Beatles and Wings. Henry McCullough was the lead guitarist and he played the solo on the classic Wings song My Love. Henry also played at rock's most famous ever concert Woodstock along with Joe Cocker.

He even had a speaking part on Pink Floyd's classic album Dark Side of the Moon. He played with many of rock's top acts like Donovan, Ronnie Lane and Marianne Faithfull. As well as playing in the Bar-A-Cuda he will also be spicing up his act with anecdotes and taking Questions and Answers from the audience. Not to be missed.

Michael Hargan will be breaking off from recording his new album to fly over from Glasgow to play at the Foyle Hotel. Michael has played sold-out headline dates in Scotland, Ireland and New York, and had invitations to headline shows at festivals such as the prestigious Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow and The Film Fleadh Foundation (Craic festival) in New York City. He played full band shows at Festivals during the summer including a main stage spot at The Big In Falkirk Festival in Front of an estimated 100,000 people.

ODi is having great things predicted for her after her first single 'Crawl' was released and is flying in from Leeds to play the Bar-A-Cuda.

TKO from Dublin have been called one of Ireland's top live acts by HotPress.

Celine Burke has supported Declan O'Rourke and is coming up form Dublin with Niall O'Shea and Mick Duffy to play as This Bird Has Flown with Celine and Gimme Some Money without Celine.

AER are coming from Derry and should bring a loyal fan base with them.

Rob Smith will be coming up from Dublin on the Saturday after recording for TV on the Friday.

White Album are also coming up from Dublin. Rob Quinn of White Album used to play in Eskimo Convention and they will be concentrating mainly on songs from The Beatles classic White Album.

Also playing are local musicians Paddy, Sean and Tim and James McIvor and Paul Bredin.
