BeatlesFest in Moville

Ireland's only Festival of Beatles music will be taking place from September 14th to 16th in Moville.

The DylanFest was a success with many local pubs reporting their best business ever and restaurants fill to the brim with customers (I know as I couldn't get in to a few on the Saturday night) which helped compensate for the slow start to the tourist season.

Big Influx

One local newspaper estimated that it brought in 800 to 1,000 visitors over the weekend - which isn't bad for a town of 1,465 people.

One guy had come from San Francisco to see it and there were people from all over Ireland.

BeatlesFest

Now it is time to build on that success with a BeatlesFest.

Will it be as big and as good?

Some local people have reservations saying that I may have gone to the well once too often and that people are Festivalled out.

Don't Believe That

However, I don't believe that to be the case. We're still a month away from it after all.

Also, the people coming into Moville for the BeatlesFest will be different to a great extent from that of the DylanFest.

Again, many local people who weren't at the DylanFest for one reason or another have said they are more likley to come to a BeatlesFest than a DylanFest.

Slow Start to Publicity

I didn't want to really go for the publicity until after the Moville Summer Festival was over to leave the field to them.

I have, however, been working feverishly in the background to make sure that the BeatlesFest is a big success.

Bands on Board

I have been getting bands and solo acts on board, many of whom Moville couldn't normally afford (or who wouldn't normally come here) but who just want to be there for Ireland's only Beatlesfest.

You can see the list of the artists who want to play the BeatlesFest at BeatlesFest

Have a look at the MySpace My Friends list there and all the acts up to but not including Declan O'Rourke want to play the BeatlesFest in Moville.

You can listen to what they sound like and watch their videos too.

Matching Up

My next step is to match up pubs with bands or acts to create a gig list which I'll be doing this week.

I've also been offered the help of 3 to 4 third year Music Technology Students who want to make sure everything runs smoothly as far as the sound and equipment is concerned.

They have also offered to help record the BeatlesFest.

Documentary

The shame about Ireland's first ever DylanFest is that it is now completely lost as it wasn't recorded or documented.

I'm also trying to find someone who could create a documentary of Ireland's only BeatlesFest.

Watch this space.
