First Time
It was my first time eating at The Waterfront since it changed its name from The Prospect and got all done up.
I took along my wife and 12 year old daughter Rhea and my 8 year old son Robbie. They had been putting the pressure on me to go there since we had eaten everywhere else but there.
It's a little more expensive than the other restaurants in Moville. Perhaps that was the reason I had taken them elsewhere before.
It certainly looks great and is in a great location. There are 120 seats so there's plenty of space.
It is done in white and looks very upmarket.
The seats by the big windows are the most sought after. There is a view looking out over Lough Foyle which can be seen from most of the restaurant.
Starters
My wife Kelly, who is from the USA, had a Seafood Chowder to begin with. She comes from Rhode Island where there are both red and white chowders on every menu as it is a big seafood area.
She said that the white chowder (her favourite) was every bit as good as those back home.
My son had the vegetable soup which was pureed. He enjoyed it fine.
My daughter asked the waitress if she could have the noodles which she was supposed to get for her main course as a starter. Our friendly and helpful waitress Lisa readily agreed to this.
Rhea reckoned the noodles were a bit dry but otherwise she enjoyed them.
I had a fruit salad to start with. It was just OK. It was mostly melon but I think the water melon had probably gone past its best.
Main Course
My son Robbie had the Kids Lasagne for the main course and like it.
My daughter had the Penne Pasta which both looked good and tasted good.
My wife had the Whirly Pool Cod which she was very impressed with. It looked very good from where I was sitting.
My Chilli Chicken was the first to come out. It looked very well presented. Indeed it was one thing that I noticed immediately that the food was all very well presented, the way it always is in restaurants in France where they see this as very important.
It was wrapped in pitta bread with salad with rice as a side dish. It was very enjoyable.
Dessert
I had the Black Forest Gateau for dessert which was OK but wasn't the best one I'd ever had as it was a bit dry.
My son, however, had his very first Knickerboker Glory. How he loved it - a mixture of several different jellies with layers of cream, fruit and ice cream.
He managed to finish every last drop even though it was his 3rd course. We even had to tell him that it wasn't polite to try to lick the glass.
Good Night
It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening in a great restaurant and a great setting.
The bill came to £87.95 with a few soft drinks and a pint of Carlsberg without tip (yes I did give one).
I have to say that the service from our waitress Lisa was excellent and the food, for the most part, very good and very well presented.
