Tennis Court
I saw the Fas workers down the Green yesterday working on the Tennis Court.
They've done a good job.
A lot of those bushes where you lost balls have been cut away.
Up Now
The Fas workers had gone on holiday unable to complete the work because of other commitments.
Only one piece of side netting had been put up.
However, it is all up now.
It looks as if the only thing left to be done is to get the net put up.
That will be something.
Previous Net
The previous net was put up by Master Paddy McLaughlin when he was a young teacher in Greencastle and also looked after the Putting Green as well.
The Net Factory there made it for him free of charge.
The old net became more and more bedraggled in its recent years and there wasn't much left of it in the end.
When work started it was taken down and disposed of.
Maybe it should have gone to the Maritime Museum.
Lasted Longer
However, it did just last longer then Paddy as he retired as a teacher a couple of weeks before the net finally gave up the ghost.
It is not known yet who will be looking after it, if anybody, after the net goes up.
There had been a suggestion that Finbarr and Movania at the Putting Green cafe would be responsible for it.
When the won the tender for the Putting Green last year the Tennis Court was included in it.
Options
It depends whether they want to leave it open to the public for all hours but also leave it open to those who may vandalise it or whether they want to lock it off but for it to be only available during times when the Putting Green Cafe is open.
The advantage there would be that they would have it supervised and looked after by Finbarr and Movania.
We shall see.
