Winnie Diver's Bar

It was a pub with a difference.

It was easily the smallest pub in Moville.

It was a pub with great craic and my father's favourite pub in Moville.

Regular Gathering

It seems that it was a regular small cosy gathering that took place there of an evening.

Winnie was also famed for having the finest collections of wines and whiskeys in Inishowen.

It held a lot of memories.

It closed down as a bar a number of years ago, perhaps 9 years.

I had never been in there when Winnie was in charge.

Opportunity

However, I did get a chance to go in once after it was closed to spend the night there at a mini private party.

I was asked if I wanted to go for a drink in Winnie's one night.

"It's been closed for three years" I said.

"Well it's open tonight" I was told.

And it was - for one last night.

Old coins were used as currency as the last of the whiskey was finished.

Brigadoon Bar

It was great to be able to get an opportunity to see one of Moville's most famous pubs open for business again for one last Brigadoon night.

Now it's gone completely.

It can't even be visited.

I wonder if there are any old photos of it when it was in its prime.

Changing Times

The chemist next door will be vacating that premises and moving into where Winnie's once was once it is rebuilt.

Time moves on.

It doesn't stand still.

Now, all of those who enjoyed Winnie's hospitality just have their memories left of a unique establishment.
