Moville Teenagers

Down the years it has been a constant refrain of grumpy adults in Moville "today's teenagers are the worst...".

They forget about any troubles caused when they were younger as the troublemakers ususally go on to become good responsible members of the Moville Community.

Indeed when I first came to Moville a few years ago there was a lot of talk like that about the youngsters.

Gone Quiet

However, it is not something I've heard for a while.

It's gone all quiet.

The jungle drums are no longer beating.

The reason is that the current bunch of youngsters about the town are as good as any in past generations and a lot better than most.

Usual Crimes

Of course there will be the boy racers and the underage drinkers.

However, what town doesn't have those?

Moville seems to have very little crime at all compared to most places.

Strikes Me

It always strikes me when I go back to Greenock in Scotland and I see headlines like "Taxi Driver stabbed to death for demanding fare" that nothing like that ever happens in Moville.

Indeed the last murder here was 150 years ago.

There's not much crime at all.

The Garda can concentrate on filling in forms.

Credit

And, to boot, we have a great bunch of youngsters in the town who cause far less trouble than the youngsters in most towns and can compare with any generation of youngsters in Moville down the years.

One has to give the credit to the parents, the schools, the town itself and most especially the youngsters themselves.

Even the savage downturn and the fact that they can't get jobs is not turning them bitter and into hooligans.
