Dubai

He lives in Dubai most of the time but he is back in Moville at the moment.

Peadar McKevitt, even though he is self-confirmed overweight and unfit (and confirmed by his wife talking to CraicOn while Peadar was out in the water swimming for home) swam from the Old Pier to the Lighthouse, round it and back again.

He was going to do it without an assistance or help but it was thought to be for the best if a rib and a small boat accompanied him provided free and manned by Charlie Kelly and his son Pat.

Swimming

He was unfortunate that a large boat came up the Foyle just after he rounded the Lighthouse and created a lot of waves for him.

At one point on the way back he was seem swimming directly in the direction of the mouth of the Foyle.

When he came ashore he was treated to a pint of Guinness, got by Finbarr McCallion, from The Trawlerman which I think he much appreciated.

Good Condition

He seemed in farly good condition when he came ashore despite being 'overweight and unfit'.

He did it in 55 minutes - so there's a target.

One of the first thing he wanted to do, when he came ashore, was to hug his two young daughters - but both of them ran off when the water-soaked Paedar approached them with his arms out.

Trial

Peadar did it for Children In Crossfire charity.

However, this was just the reckoner - the trial.

Next year he wants to raise a load of money for Children in Crossfire, the RNLI and the charities of choice of the participants by raising an army of 100 people to do the swim next year.

He already has 9 volunteers so the ball is rolling.

Volunteers

The obvious time to do it would be during the Lighthouse Festival next year.

Alternatives might be during the Regatta or during the Clipper Race.

Peadar is looking for volunteers so if you want to help charity whilst getting yourself fit and taking part in a mass swim round the lighthouse you can contact Peadar at peadarZIPswim@gmail.com or phone him at 00 971 55 752 1172.
