The snow has gone

Thaw

The snow has all gone, certainly from downtown Moville.

The thaw has set in.

It was either lovely or terrible while it lasted according to whether you like the snow or not.

Slow

The Council were slow about getting sand on the roads esepcially in the lower main street of Moville where cars skidded all the way down and into the wall at the bottom.

It became a black run for a couple of days early on.

Youngsters were toboganning down it in the late evening.

Staying In

They were even slower about getting it on the pavements and people were falling all over the place.

Older people were staying indoors for fear of falling and breaking a hip.

It was bad news for those running pubs and restaurants who had their worst fortnight for some time.

It was good news for those running grocery shops who had their best fortnight for some time as people stocked up while they could and didn't risk going in to Derry.

Here Comes the Snow

So, we can all relax now and go back to normal - till next Friday anyway.

Then the cold Arctic blasts are coming back again with a vengeance and more snow is predicted both on the Friday and the following Monday.

Indeed it will be cold right through to December 23rd before it warms up again.

White Christmas

That would be a shame.

If we are going to have a White Moville we might as well have a White Christmas as well.

So, goodbye to the snow for a few days while we await the next snowfall.
