Path
Two or three years ago the shore walk path to Greencastle closed with signs saying that this was becasue of the build of the breakwater at Greencastle.
However, there has been no work done for ages on that - and the shore walk stayed shut.
Even after the announcement that there would be no more money for the project and therefore no more work, while the breakwater lay idle the shore walk stayed shut.
Ferry
Lots of people who came over on the ferry complained that their walk was blocked.
Late last year the ferry shut because of a lack of passengers.
Still the shore walk remained shut.
A couple of months back it was announced in the Journal that the breakwater had now been capped.
It was now safe so there was no reason for the shore walk to remain shut.
It was said that it would be opened again in a few days.
I took a walk along there a few days ago and can report that it is still blocked.
What possible reason could there be for the shore walk remaining shut now?
In a severe downturn it is a huge own goal to keep one of Moville's and Greencastle's best resources closed to the public.
If it remains shut much longer local people may be in danger of losing their right of way.
