The Plea
At last year's DylanFest my brother-in-law, who had come over from Scotland for the DylanFest said that there were two acts at it that he would pay to see.
The first was the 8-piece The Phantom Engineers who headlined the festival on the Saturday night in the Malin Road.
The other one was The Plea, comprising Denis and Dermott from Ballyliffin.
Turned Down
I got in touch with them a couple of months back to ask them if they would like to play the DylanFest.
I said that I would have them out in the street this year ad maybe even the festival's headline act.
They turned me down saying that they were promoting their new album and weren't sure where they would be on the date.
Phone Number
About half an hour ago I saw a piece of paper with writing on it on top of my fridge.
I'd noticed it before but hadn't looked at it.
On it, it said Dermott, The Plea with a telephone number.
Immediately I thought "they must be available".
Why didn't whoever took the message tell me or put the note somewhere that I would see it?
Town Clock
Then I remembered.
The act I booked for the Town Clock had cancelled.
I hadn't told the Town Clock yet as I was looking for a replacement.
I phoned the number.
Available
Dermot answered it immediately and said they were available after all.
I asked them how much they wanted for playing and set off for the Town Clock immediately.
They are on the expensive side but many people in Moville consider them the best band in Donegal and they are really excellent with Dylan songs.
It took a bit of persuading but after some negotiating the Town Clock eventually agreed a figure.
Great News
This is really great news.
The Plea packed out the bar of the Caiseal Mara last year on the Friday of the DylanFest.
I wouldn't mind betting that the Town Clock will be pretty busy tomorrow night.
Anothe change to the programme is that Paddy Mclaughlin will be playing the Town Clock on Friday and Marianne and Brendan will be playing Rosatos.
Marianne is the sister of the top Irish singer Eleanor McEvoy and she and Brendan play The Cobblestone and Whelan's in Dublin.
