The Big Thaw

Thaw

Well, that's it!

The thaw's come.

The snow and ice have disappeared as quickly as they came.

Yesterday was treacherous in some parts of Moville especially on the pavements as a layer of very uneven ice was exposed by the disappearance of the snow.

However, that seems to have mostly gone too now.

Normal

So, we're back to normal.

Did you enjoy the snow while it was here - or did you hate it?

Or did you like it when it was here but are glad it is gone now?

I think the last one describes my thoughts closest.

Falls

Did you take a tumble at all?

I took one on Quay Street during the first snowfall a few weeks ago.

I also took one on Christmas night whilst leaving my sister's house on a patch of ice on her stairs.

My son fell on the same patch immediately after me.

He say I fell because I was drunk.

I don't know how he makes out that he fell because it was slippy and I fell because I was drunk but he wouldn't be shaken from that view.

Snowfall

It wn't be too long before people are remembering the snowfall with fondness.

It is 47 years since a fall of snow so heavy as that here.

If it takes as long again my son will be 59 by then.

He will be able to tell his children and grandchildren about the great snowfall of 2010 when he was a boy.

For now, though, everything is back to normal.
