Space Cadets

The Space Cadets played in Moville regularly about 20 years ago and according to one prominent local musician "they were the heavyweight band around Moville at that time".

The Space Cadets were formed in the mid eighties & comprised Lowry Wasson (drums & vocals), John Cassidy (bass guitar & vocals) & Raymond O'Doherty (lead guitar & vocals).

They played extensively around N.Ireland & Donegal.

Popular

The band was especially popular around Inishowen & played many memorable gigs in venues like the Prospect Bar & The Foyle Hotel.

The same prominent local musician told CraicOn, "Raymond O'Doherty is probably the best guitarist to have played in Moville. The only exception would be Henry McCulloch who played at the BeatlesFest in 2007 and who was the only Irish man to have played at Woodstock. Raymond really is superb. Younger folks are in for a treat if they like virtuoso guitar players".

Highlight Act

They also were the highlight act at the Carn Festival two years in a row. The Space Cadets play a great selection of Rock, Blues & muscular pop music, including songs from Thin Lizzy, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Steve Miller, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Santana etc.

After the success of the return of Moville's top band of the nineties, Small Change, the Space Cadets are now going to do a one-off gig in aid of Scoil Eoghan.

It will take place in the Caiseal Mara on Saturday October 17th.

Said Lowry Wasson, who now runs Moville's Pottery Shop in Glencrow, " I am really looking forward to this reunion. We have had a number of run throughs of the old play list & the band is sounding as good or even better than it did originally. I know that we will have a great fun, rocking night in Caiseal Mara on the 17th!"

Zig Zag

Many people will remember Zig Zag who played locally using many of the same players.

According to Lowry Wasson of Space Cadets:-

"Zig Zag was a band that had existed before The Space Cadets, in the 70's. When the Space Cadets finished Zig Zag was revived & all the players in the Space Cadets also played in Zig Zag at one time or another.

"The main diference was that Trevor Burnside came in on keyboards. Zig Zag at various times had different lead players including Andrew Keaney & Peter Vale".

Best Ever

The Space Cadets were arguably Moville's best ever band and it will be great for the younger generation to see what their parents thrilled to all those years ago.

Do they still have it?

Come along and see.

Tickets are €10.

Paddy McLaughlin will be playing in the main bar at the Caiseal Mara earlier on in the evening and the doors will open to the function room at 11pm for the Space Cadets.
