Richard Digance

Angie McLaughlin's song I Wanna Whistle Like My Sister Kate from their CD Punch Drunk was played on the Richard Digance Show on Radio Devon yesterday.

He's the guy that's on Channel 4's Countdown as a frequent guest with the likes of Susie Dent.

Anthology of Songwriters

Richard was one of the great folk entertainers of the 70s and 80s.

His evergreen career has been acknowledged through numerous awards within both the music and entertainment industries, from a BAFTA Nomination as a TV entertainer to a Gold Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

He has supported Steve Martin in the USA, Robin Williams at The London Palladium and is included in The Virgin Anthology of Songwriters for his important contribution to British comedy songwriting.

Gold Award

When presented with the Gold Award from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters he was described as someone who for half a century has travelled the world with just a guitar and an immense collection of stories gathered through his own experiences.
Digance's story reads like a who's who of the folk world - like the time he performed at Paul Simon's (yes, that Paul Simon!) folk club at the Red Lion in Barking before Simon returned to America to hit the big time.

Rick Wakeman, Paul Brady, Eric Clapton and David Bowie who ran the Tree Tuns Folk Club in Beckenham, Kent all got a look-in.

Tony Bramwell

The CD Punch Drunk by the Sick and Indigent Song Club was passed to him by Beatles road manager Tony Bramwell who was here for the Beatles festival.

I sent it to Tony when I was sending him the clippings from the BeatlesFest.

He said he loved it. He said there wasn't a bum song on it and has been passing it round.

Listen Here

Richard Digance liked both the song, the cover and Angie.

You can here Richard Digance playing it here and what he said about it. Click here

It is on 45 minutes into the two-hour show.

There is an option to Fast Forward if you are the impatient type like me.

Maybe More

Tony is passing the CD around to some big names but I won't say who till I hear more news.

Tony discovered, amongst others, Eva Cassidy, James Taylor and Paul Simon as well as turning down a young Daniel O'Donnell.

The CD Punch Drunk, with the song on it, is on sale at McFeeley's and the Farm Shop.
