Rosatos

The Sunday World Pub Spy awarded Rosatos the 2010 Pub of the Year when nominating their Top 5 Pubs of the year.

They were overwhelmed by Rosatos.

So, "what's the secret?" we asked Eddie Harkin, the joint owner and manager of Rosatos along with his wife Maragaret.

"We're very honoured to be given the award" said Eddie "but I don't think it is down to just one thing.

Great Pub

"The pub itself is a great little pub so we started off well. One of the most important factors is the people who work here in the kitchen, serving food and behind the bar. There isn't a weak link. They all work hard, are friendly and conscientious.

"Then there's the food. We try to maintain a high level of consistency, which is all down to the head chef Majella Doherty and her hard working team.

Cleanliness

"Another important factor is cleanliness. We make sure that everything is spick and span. It's amazing what difference this makes to the general look and feel of the place when someone walks in the door. As soon as someone new walks in the door we want them to be impressed.

"The two hearth fires at opposite ends of the pub help to create a warm atmosphere and we make sure that on a winter's evening the fires are burning bright.

Welcome

"We always make the customers welcome. Every one of them is important to us.

"We know that they don't have to come to eat or drink here and that they have alternatives but if they do come here we want them leaving with a warm feeling".

Never Winter

So, there you have it.

My own son Robbie said when we were in there one time "It's never winter in Rosatos".

I think that about sums it up.

Party

PS Rosatos are having a Champagne and food party this Saturday night coming to celebrate their Pub of the Year award with their customers.

There will be music by Paul Bredin and Damian McGonigle.
