Rip off Ireland

Christmas Card

My father sent us a Christnas Card.

My son saw the envelope on the sofa.

He asked "Why did Granda write Rip Off Ireland on it"?

"Let me see it" I said.

He pointed it out.

Rip Off

It was actually addressed to "Rep of Ireland" rather than "Rip off Ireland" but I'm beginning to wonder in recent days.

When I was driving through Muff I saw petrol priced at 96.8 cents and 87.8 pence - and that was on a day when the Euro was at 97.5 cents to the pound.

I then went to Smyths in Derry and saw batteries with a sterling and a Euro price.

The Euro price was 40% dearer.

Vigilance Needed

I think that Moville shoppers need to be very vigilant these days in Derry.

There are wild fluctuations in the exchange rates between the Euro and sterling in the different shops.

Before buying anything using Euros it would be best to ask what exchange rate they are giving before purchasing anything.

Anyone who has both a Euro and a sterling bank account is in a good position to go shopping at the moment.

Argos

Another rip-off I saw in Derry was at Argos.

There main sale item was a Sony flat screen TV which was for sale at £342,54. They said that this was half price.

Here it is on their website:-

Hotcakes

They must have gone like hotcakes as there were none left. They were hoping to get more in.

They should have just contacted rgbdirect who have them for sale at £369 saying that was £43.73 off.

I checked a website which showed a graph of this make of Sony TV since it came out in May.

It showed that when it first came out it cost £600 and showed it falling ever since to around the £350 price.

Google

I Googled it and couldn't find anyone selling it for more than £469.

Shame on Argos for saying that the real cost was £699.99 when they know that not to be true.

That's a rip-off.
