Film Crew
It has been a bad November / December for pubs and restaurants in Moville and the shops have been just as bad except for the recent snow flurry as regards the food shops.
No one was particularly looking forward to January or February in 2011 - or the year at all.
However, the Carlton Hotel in Redcastle may have come to the rescue of the local economy early next year.
Fully Booked
The hotel, which contains 98 rooms and around 230 beds has been fully booked up for the whole of January by a film crew coming from England to shoot scenes here.
Included in the scenes is the Anchor Bar / Hair of the Dog which has been booked for filming.
That means that the actors / actresses / producers / directors and film crew will be coming up to Moville for at least some of the time.
Boost
They will be wanting to eat and drink, listen to music, purchase newspapers, medicines etc.
That could be a huge boost to the Moville economy.
There's not usually that many visitors here at any one time even in the peak of summer - especially this year.
Big Money
If we say that there are 150 of them and they spend just 30 Euros a day around here then that would bring a boost to the local economy of around €150,000.
That works out at about €100 per person in Moville.
The Circulation of Money theory says that ever €1 spent in an area is worth a total of €6 as those that get the money spend it elsewhere and they then sepnd it elsewhere.
Example
For example if Rosatos takes on extra staff to cope, then those staff might spend the extra money they get on a meal in the Town Clock or getting their hair done, and the hairdresser might spend extra money on hiring a plumber, painter or an electrician to get their house done up, who will then spend it in the shops and pubs, and so on and so on as the money circulates about town.
So, if the €1 to €6 theory is correct then the boost to the local economy will be close to a million Euros.
Very Lucky
We are very lucky to have such a big prestigious hotel nearby which also provides employment to quite a few local people including those from Moville.
And what a perfect time of the year to get an influx of free spending visitors from a country whose economy is already recovering, i.e. the UK.
Not only that, it will be a lot of fun to have them here too.
Fun January
I'm looking forward to it.
I hope they have a few famous names with them that we can share a pint with in the town's pubs.
Wouldn't that be fun?
