Paul McCartney gave blessing to Tony Bramwell’s Moville BeatlesFest trip

Tony Bramwell, who was delivered by Paul McCartney’s midwife mother Mary McCartney (the Mother Mary mentioned in Paul’s classical song Let It Be) later became a childhood friend of Paul McCartney’s.

Indeed he was at the small summer fete together with best friend George Harrison when Paul met John Lennon for the first time.

By Chance

He became the Beatles Road Manager by chance after offering to carry George Harrison’s guitar in order to get in for free at their first gig after they came back from Hamburg. It was a wild ride as he then became head of Apple Records, Apple Films (making the first ever pop videos) and Polydor when Slade, The Jam and Roxy Music were in ‘the stable’ and he numbered among his friends, Chas Chandler of The Animals, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi Hendrix, John Depp and Tim Burton.

Latest Project

His latest project is a film about the short life of Eva Cassidy whom he discovered and managed. He co-wrote the screenplay and it will be directed next year by Robert Redford with Nicole Kidman in the role of Eva.

Tony was with the Beatles every inch of the way and is still in regular touch with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Indeed, he attended Ringo’s 70th birthday a few weeks ago.

He had been in America with Paul at his gig in Nashville when he heard about Moville’s BeatlesFest and quickly contacted the organiser asking if he could come and do a talk – an offer that was quickly snapped up.

Turned Down

Indeed he had to turn down Paul McCartney who had asked him to come to gigs in Toronto and Montreal with him. “Have a good time in Ireland” Paul told him.

According to Tony’s book Magical Myster Tours: My Life With The Beatles”, ‘Because they came from Liverpool most people think of John and Paul as English. In fact their roots were Irish and they thought of themselves as Irish’.

Text From Paul

Whilst he was in Moville at the BeatlesFest on the Lough, Paul McCartney texted him to see that ‘we are both in the newspaper today’.

Tony bought the Daily Mail to see Paul McCartney’s autobiography serialised with quotes from himself about Heather Mills.

Tony also took a picture of the Guinness Toucan outside Rosatos as he sat in the sun downing a few of his favourite tipple and sent it via his phone to Paul to which he got a ‘lucky you’ reply.

Enjoyed Moville

Said Tony “I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Moville. I’ve done talks and book signings in front of 15,000 people in America, so it wasn’t the biggest Beatles event that I’ve been to, but I like it here and would come back again, if asked, next year if it fits in with my schedule.”

And when he got back to the small town of Totnes in Devon he was greeted with “You’re the Beatles guy and you were in Moville last weekend weren’t you?” by someone from Boyce Tours of Donegal who happened to have a bus tour stopping off at Totnes. Fame for him at last.

So, what is it for Tony now, “I’ll have a few days in Totnes and then head out to see Paul on his tour in North America again. I’m also working with a music download website and I review about 25 CDs a week by people who send them to me.

"After that it is the film about Eva Cassidy next year – and who knows, the BeatlesFest in Moville again if I can”.
