Cross Border Tiger
A panel of experts commissioned by the Northern Ireland Government have concuded that with Project Kelvin now in place that both sides of the Donegal / Derry border are in a strong position to attract business to the area worth billions and billions of pounds.
That's right. It's not a misprint. It's billions and not millions.
They will be able to exploit the higher bandwith and the low latency direct international connectivity that Project Kelvin has created according to the Matrix Panel.
Report
Its report is expected to be published in about two weeks time.
The panel reckon that many, many, well paid high tech jobs can be created if action is taken quickly.
She stated: "The MATRIX Telecoms report is now complete and I am pleased to advise that it will be formally launched within the next two weeks.
According to Government Minister Arlene Foster:-
"The report concludes that the combination of high bandwidth, low latency direct international connectivity, coupled with ubiquitous internal broadband access strongly positions Northern Ireland to exploit six key multi-billion dollar markets.
Key Jobs Markets
"These are:
1. Advanced Engineering;
2. Life & Health Sciences;
3. Social and Digital Media;
4. ICT;
5. SmartGrids;
6. Financial Services.
Moville's Youngsters
That's fantastic news for Moville's youngsters.
Normally, if they get a degree or other qualification the first thing they must do if they want to succeed is leave town.
Now, there are going to be heaps of jobs on this side of Derry and in the border area - and good ones too.
Financial Services
And its not just on the IT area.
There will be great jobs in Financial Services like Banking, Insurance, Pensions and probably Stockbroking too.
And it's all going to be just up the road.
Derry Goes Boom
Moville's economy has always been far more connected to that of Derry than to that of Dublin or Letterkenny.
And now Derry is going to boom - and a huge boom it is going to be.
The minister said that she was looking at plans for a cross border data centre in Derry/Donegal.
Data Centre
She said: "I am aware that the benefits of the direct international link have heightened the interest of companies for the potential of locating a data centre in the North West.
"I myself met with the proposers of a cross border data centre, along with local representatives, to hear of their plans".
That would be great news for the youngsters here too.
Smart Economy
They are looking for EU funding to be able to take advantage of Project Kelvin so that the Derry / Donegal area can be at the forefront of the 'smart economy'.
This really is a huge, huge boost to the area.
If Derry gets this right then it can compete with Silicon Valley, London and Dublin etc. for the biggest of companies.
Companies will have a cost advantage in coming here compared to those areas that we can now compete with.
Boom of All Booms
THis companies will attract lots of people to the area who will come and enjoy Moville.
A booming Derry is a booming Moville.
And this is potentially the boom of all booms.
Cavalry Coming
Things seem very bad now.
However, massive battalions of economic cavalry are just over the hill and on their way here.
Moville could see the first generation of its children who stay home after going to college or university.
It's fantastic news.
