TradFest
The 4th Moville Traditional Music Festival will take place in Moville this weekend.
This is Moville's first Festival of the year in a busy programme.
Three pubs will be involved, Rosatos, Rawdons and Caiseal Mara Hotel.
Rosatos
Rosatos will have trad music on both nights from the 4-piece JEMS, who have played a couple of times before there and were a big success.
They play both traditional music and more contrmporary music played in a traditional style.
The players use such instruments as the harp, fiddle, boron and guitar.
Their reappearance has prompted a great deal of excitment amongst trad fans in Moville who have seen their previous performances.
If anything their contemporary music, done in the old traditional style, got even more applause from the audience on their previous visits.
It's fantastic to hear modern classics played with the harp, fiddle and boron and whistle.
Said Eddie Harkin of Rosatos "A lot of customers have asked about JEMS since they last played here and wondered whether they would become regular players here. They all met each other at music college but are now dispersed in different parts of Ireland and the UK, so we can only get them for special events like the Moville Tradfest. There has been a great deal of interest, though, as regards their return and we are expecting a bit of a spectacular".
Paddy the Shoe
The other main peformer is Paddy The Shoe who, it is hoped, will be playing with Oliver from Belfast.
Said Mick Cavanagh of Rawdons:- "Paddy has been keeping traditional music alive in Moville for nearly 17 years with his Friday slot in Rawdons. He's the biggest draw around here for trad music and he will be putting on a special performance on the Friday night along with guests. We will also have a girl fiddler on the Saturday night who is supposed to be a bit special".
Paddy will be playing there on the Friday night and playing at Caiseal Mara on the Saturday night.
He invites anyone who can play traditional music to come up and join him on both nights.
Big Success
The previous three TradFests have been a great success and it is hoped that the TradFest gets Moville's Festival Season off to a flyer.
