Moville Summer Festival and Regatta a huge success

Big Crowds

Moville Summer Festival, Regatta and Raft Race were a huge success this year.

Local businesses in the town were delighted by the bumper crowds which turned out for the festivals.

The town was extremely busy all weekend.

Good Bands

Despite the foul weather the crowds to see the tribute bands were very good on all three nights - especially to see the Queen tribute band in the main square on the Sunday night.

There was also a big crowd to see the Robbie Williams tribute band in the Malin Road on the Saturday night and a good crowd for a Friday night in James Street to see the Bon Jovi tribute band.

Raft Race

As ever, the Raft Race was well attended with large crowds at the pier and Bath Green to watch the race.

All of the festivals and events had much larger crowds this year than last year.

So how did this happen in a year when he economy was turning downwards and people were keeping an eye on their purse strings?

Act Together

What has been the difference?

It is probably because Moville has, at last, got its act together.

There used to be little co-ordination between the different festivals and events.

In the past, if someone came to Moville either for a Festival or just on a visit and enjoyed it, they would never know that there was anything else taking place in Moville that they might want to come back for - or to tell other people about where they come from.

Moville Events

This year the different festivals and events got their act together and formed Moville Events.

What Moville Events did was:-

1. Had Flyers and Posters printed which have all the dates of the different festivals and events on them

2. Distributed these to the pubs, shops, restaurants, cafes etc. of the town so that when someone came to Moville on a visit they could simply pocket one of these and take them away with them to wherever they come from to spread the news

3. Got the news of the festivals and events to Failte Ireland who put them up on their Discover Ireland website.

4. Got the news of the festivals onto the internet. If you go into Google and type in Moville followed by the festival or event name you will see the number of websites which have the information about the festivals and events.

Worthwhile

Some people might think that these big crowds just happened but a lot of work went on behind the scenes both from the festival organisers and from Moville Events in getting the word out.

And it was all worthwhile.

The killjoys who slashed the children's three blow up bouncy castles and who got up on stage and punched the Bon Jovi band member because he didn't want music playing outside his flat weren't able to stop a very successful and enjoyable festival.
