Moville Sports and Fun Day

From listening to my father there used to be a lot happening in Moville in the old days.

Many of those events, like the dog racing of the thirties and the horse racing of the forties have fallen away as has the Gymkhana that used to takle place when I was a lad.

Also gone is the Oyster festival.

New Events

However, a lot of good things remain and ther have been very good additions like the highly successful Inishowen Vintage Show and the St. Patrick's Day Parade and various other festivals.

One that had fallen away, but has now returned is the Moville Sports and Fun Day.

It is run by Moville Football Club and has been fantastic in the first two years of its revival.

There has been all sorts of things to do, take part in and eat.

It will be taking place at Moville Celtic's ground at Glencrow instead of the Bay Field where it was the last two years.

Good Weather

Last year and the year before were blessed with great weather and it was well attended.

The long range weather forecast is looking quite good for it at the moment.

A lot of hard work is put into it and a lot of fun is had.

It is on during the same weekend this year as the BeatlesFest so hopefully they can jointly bring a lot of people to town and out to see the fun.

There's a lot of good cooking gone on beforehand that you can enjoy.

Events

On this year there are:-

1. Races
2. Lucky Dip
3. Underage 5-a-side football
4. Penalty Shot
5. Bouncy Castle
6. Duck Drop
7. Welly Throwing
8. Perfect Pass
9. Pole fighting (nice to see our Eastern European visitors joining in the fun)
10. Nappy Hanging
11. Talent Competition
12. Slippery Slope
13. Horse Shoe throwing
14. Tug o' War
15. Face Painting
16. Bonnie Baby competition
17. Fancy Dress
18. Mr & Miss Moville
19. Tea hut (well worth a visit)
20. Barbecue

There's also a senior 7-a-side competition with a prize of €150.

Favourite Summer Days

Well, that's worth going to.

I would say that it is one of my favourite days of the year.

Combined with a weekend of Beatles music should make it just perfect.
