Up Scene

It was a highly impressive display at Rosatos last night.

I had missed the first performance of the Up Scene at the Caiseal Mara a few weeks ago as I was quizmaster at Rosatos on the same night.

I went along last night to support the Up Scene and the youngsters in it.

Splendid

I wasn't expecting much though.

However, it turned out to be a splendid evening.

I was impressed.

It wasn't just me, though.

Highly Impressed

Local musicians in the audience were highly impressed too.

Indeed Grandaddy of Moville music, Paddy McLaughlin, was delighted to see how well some of his former charges were doing.

Matt Whoriskey, fresh back from Manchester, who was a star at the Manchester DylanFest, sang the praises of quite a few of the youngsters too.

Melissa Craig

I didn't know all of their names but I did know Melissa Craig who gave a superb performance and had the audience clapping and cheering.

I said to Paddy Mclaughlin that she was a class act.

"She always was", said Paddy, "even when she was just six or seven".

That's high praise.

Dylan Play

I even wondered whether she could play the last remaining part (the female singer) in the Dylan play, which is being put on at St Eugene's Hall on July 2nd and 3rd.

However, I don't hand out the parts as Egon Callery is in charge there.

He is auditioning for the part at Sandino's in Derry on Tuesday at 10pm.

Good Night

There was a very good turn out last night in Rosatos.

It was like a good Saturday night.

I don't know how I'm going to get through this weekend with a further three nights of music and entertainment with James O'Connor and Audrey Trainor, fresh from their Top Ten hit in late April, plaing in Rosatos on Friday and Sunday and Saturday in McGettigan's.

All I'll say is that it was a great start to the weekend and I would ceratinly go to another of their nights.
