Moville Events to be revived

Moville Events

Having an overall umbrella organisation for all the festivals and events in Moville and Greencastle seemed a good idea.

It is a good idea to have coordination for the events and for the different festivals to share their ideas.

Indeed a calendar of events was produced and it was stuck up all over Moville and further afield.

There were flyers with the list of events created too which people could put in their pockets and take away with them to wherever they lived.

Helpful

It meant that if people came for one festival or event then they could see the full programme of events for Moville for the year.

You would often see visitors to the town examining the calendar of events in pubs etc. and folding up an events flyer and putting it in their pockets.

There was a knock on effect and all the festivals benefitted from it with bumper crowds.

Revival

For whatever reason the committee didn't meet this year and there was no calendar of events - which was sure to have an impact on crowds at the festivals this year.

However, there is to be an attempt to revive it.

Cecilia Keaveney has told us that because Derry is to be the city of culture in 2013 there are one-off cross border grants.

She has asked us to all a meeting at her office on Wednesday evening at 8pm and we are in the process of alerting the different committees.

As space is a bit tight committees are asked to just send one representative or no more than two anyway.

It would be excellent for the town if Moville Events could be revived.
