Moville Events

We'd just like to let everyone know that the meeting of Moville Events that it says in today's Journal will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) at Cecilia Keaveney's office will not take place.

There was obviously some confusion as the meeting took place last Wednesday.

As there was little publicity about it and it took place at very short notice there was only five attendees at it including Cecilia.

Useful

It was a useful meeting though and it was decided to call a full meeting of Moville Events for next week.

It will take place on Monday at 8pm at a location to be added later.

It is likely to be St. Eugene's Hall or the Community College depending on availability.

Expansion

It is being suggested that Moville Events expands to include the businesses in the town including the pubs, shops, hotel, kayaks, Putting Green Cafe etc.

Moville is trying to get itself organised so that it can apply for grants and funding properly especially with the big Clipper race in 2012 and the Derry City of Culture in 2013 coming up.

Funding

Moville is far more likely to be given funding if it can show that the whole town is behind the application.

Festivals and events may be pondering whether to go it alone with their applications or come in with an expanded Moville Events.

We are advised that to be successful they would be better off applying through an expanded Moville Events.

Moville has an excellent advantage in having a national figure like Cecilia Keaveney on board and acting as an advisor as she knows many of the funding committees and has a good knowledge of how funding can be got and how to go about it.

Moville Events

The plan is to have a Moville Events meeting then to seek permission to expand the group, then to call a meeting of the expanded group and then to have a third meeting where those involved in the allocation of grants will come along, organised by Cecilia Keaveney.

There is a feeling that now is the time for Moville to get its act together especially as Buncrana and Letterkenny with their councils and chambers of commerce will be getting their acts together to get a hold of as much as the funding as they can.

Together

There is also the feeling that we have to do it now and we have to do it together.

Let's see if Moville can get its act together and have everyone facing in the same direction.

It will be crucial to the survival of the town and for it to thrive.
