Tennis Court
We reported a few months back that the net in the tennis court had, finally, come to an end.
We showed pictures of one piece of the net hanging up on the fence and the other piece trailing on the ground.
Disappointed
Several people got in touch with us to tell us how disappointed they were as playing tennis there was one of the highlights of their visits to Moville in the summer.
The net remained broken for months.
Fixed
However, I took a stroll along Bath Green yesterday and saw that someone had fixed the net.
It isn't quite straight as it dips at one end.
And it is hauling more of the perimeter wire fence inside the court.
However, it is fixed!
Someone went down and put all the pieces of string, wire and rope (as well as some netting) back together again.
Red Rag
I don't know what happened to it previously, whether it was wrecked by high winds or vandals.
Also, I hope that this is not a red rag to a bull to those of a destructive nature.
But, for now, the net is back up.
Symbol
It is almost a symbol bridging the gap to Moville's more successful days as a holiday town and the present.
Perhaps its like the Apes of Gibraltar or the Ravens at the Tower of London.
For those that don't know the analogies, it seems that when the Apes leave Gibraltar that will signify the end of British rule there.
Ravens
It is also supposed to be that if the ravens were to leave the Tower of London that would mean the end of the British Royal Family.
They are obviously taking no chances as, when I was there, their wings were all clipped.
Anyone for Tennis
So, perhaps the net in the tennis court is a link back to old times with a hope that it can cling on until new good times arrive.
Anyway, it is fixed and we can all play tennis.
