Bar-A-Cuda in Moville

We have put the case for the prosecution in the article above.

We now put the case for the defence of the Bar-A-Cuda.

Moville Split

As we have said, Moville is split over the Bar-A-Cuda's forthcoming mixed male and female strip night.

The split tends to be by age but not always.

The split also tends to be between churchgoing and non-churchgoing from what I can see.

More Reaction

It's strange but there seems to be more of a reaction this time than last time.

The majority of people were fairly relaxed about the male strippers.

I don't know whether it is because there are female strippers this time or whether it is because there are both male and female strippers on the same night.

Relaxed

Many people I've spoken to are fairly relaxed about it - especially those who have lived in other places besides Moville.

It happens in many places, they say, and the walls of those towns haven't come tumbling down.

Free Choice

They also say that if a pub owner is happy to put it on in his own pub and people are happy enough to turn up for it and pay money then it is down only to those involved.

Ireland, as it's economy booms and it comes into the modern age, should be showing more tolerance.

Laughable

They also say that it is laughable for people to say that Moville will become the Sleaze capital of Inishowen just because they put on a few strip acts once every month and a half in one pub in the town.

In fact, they are saying, people are more likely to laugh at the narrow minded attitudes that they read about in their local newspapers.

Mary Whitehouse

There were those that thought of Mary Whitehouse in her clean up TV campaign in Britain as a moral leader.

However, she was seen then (and even more so now) by those who opposed her, as a product of a bygone age - as someone who wanted to run people's lives for them.

To their minds, a succession of 'latter day Mary Whitehouses' have sprung up with their opinions in the local papers and this just makes Moville look like a backward place, the Inishowen capital of prudery, backwardness and intolerance.

Relaxed

Those that are relaxed about the Bar-A-Cuda strippers see it as a fad that will run its course.

They don't see Moville as having a big enough population to be able to support strip acts in several pubs in the town every weekend.
