Lessons to be learned over TradFest

Two Visitors

Two girls who had come all the way up to Moville from Galway just for the TradFest said they were a bit disappointed.

They said that there were disappointed that there were not more people out on the Friday and also they had been in Maguires where some of the punters there said they didn't even know it was on.

They can't have read the Derry Journal, Inish Times or Inishowen Independent over the past few weeks or looked at the posters in most of the shop windows in the town - but it is something that has to be borne in mind for next year.

No Daytime Music

The girls were also disappointed that there was no music on during the day on Saturday.

They said that in Trad weekends where they come from all the pubs in the town would have trad music on and would have it on all day.

Again that's something that the organisers and the pubs will have to look at for next year.

Not Finished Yet

I did tell them that they wouldn't be disappointed by the show on Saturday night - however, I think they had gone home by then.

However, if the Movile TradFest is to be a major event on the Traditional Music calendar we have to take account of what those who travelled half the country to see it are saying to us.

We need to get the best musicians and get the news out to the Trad community as well as getting better involvement by the pubs - especially during the day on Saturday and maybe Sunday.
