Jolene Mclaughlin of the Henry Girls plays Moville TradFest

The Henry Girls - Joleen, Lorna and Karen McLaughlin - are three sisters from Inishowen in Co. Donegal, Ireland.

The band’s name comes from the local family nickname, Henry.

Their music is an eclectic mix of folk, blues and traditional Irish, with “spine-tingling” three part harmonies.

They formed the band in 2001 and recorded their first album, Between Us in 2002.

Their second album, Morning Rush, was released in 2007 to great acclaim, with Irish Music Magazine describing it as “ very well crafted indeed, reflecting the diverse mix of musical traditions that have shaped and influenced their unique blend of country, traditional, jazz and roots - each of which they perform with considerable ease and enjoyment.”

The girls released their third album Dawn in 2010 which features music from the award winning movie “A Shine of Rainbows” starring Aidan Quinn and Connie Neilsen. Also in 2010, they were nominated for an IFTA (Irish Film & Television Award) for Best Original Score for their work on the movie.

The Henry Girls have collaborated with many other artists on various projects over the years.

These include Moroccan group Gawa Fusion, The Pyros, Finbarr Doherty, Appalachian singer Jerry Harmon, Mark Black, Natty Wailer, LA based composer Keith Power, Uni and her Ukulele from San Francisco and The Foxhunt from West Virginia.

Their television appearances include RTE’s Nationwide, First Stop on BBC2, Féilte on TG4, The Afternoon Show on RTE1 and SRL on BBC2. They can regularly be heard on radio stations such as Lyric FM, RTE 1, Highland Radio and BBC Radio Ulster.

As well as performing regularly throughout Ireland and further afield at some great festivals and events, the band have written and performed music for TV, theatre and contemporary dance companies.

Jolene Mclaughlin will be playing Rosatos on Saturday night along with Clodagh Warnock, Tom Byrne and Martin McGinley.
