It's Moville v Carndonagh

Keaveney

According to Katie Barr on the front page of today's Journal Cecilia Keaveney from Moville may be about to be usurped by Charlie McConalogue from Carndonagh for the chance to stand as the Fianna Fail candidate at the next election.

Nothing has been decided yet and it maybe just someone flying a kite but if there is no fire yet there is certainly smoke here.

I wouldn't dream of telling the readers of CraicOn who they should vote for in any election as the great majoirty of them would know more about Irish politics than I do.

Disappointed

However, I must say I would be disapointed.

When I vote in elections here I only vote for Moville people.

At the last local elections I voted for Marian on the first ballot and then Martin next (for which he's only just starting to forgive me for not putting him first) and then no one after that.

Tactical

The only reason that I had them in that order was I thought Marian had to get her votes early whereas Martin would get more late second and third votes.

This proved to be correct although Marian didn't quite make it.

Martin came storming through like Nijinsky late on to take his seat (that's the horse and not the ballet dancer).

The reason is that I am likely to bump into some representative from Moville down the Green or in the shops, restaurants and pubs and can put something to them there that I would like them to do.

Marian

For instance, getting the White Wall back up and Getting the Putting Green / Crazy Golf / Cafe opened was something that I would have wanted done.

Marian McDonald managed to get those done.

Martin Farren

Martin Farren, whom everyone sees out and about, has now got the tennis court refurbished and a new net up.

That's great!

I saw that high winds had taken it down again, called Martin and lo and behold it's back up again.

Cecilia

Cecilia has been a great help in terms of knowing people and knowing how to get things done.

She has been a great help in terms of pointing me in the right direction to get funding for the festivals next year for example.

That would be a huge boost to the festivals and to Moville.

Also this new Moville Inishowen Action Group which is getting organised to partner with Derry for the City of Culture in 2013 and the Clipper race in 2012 was Cecilia's idea.

Moville Events

She said that Moville Events (the umbrella organisation for all the festivals and events in the town) should be revived and expanded to include the town's businesses so that we would have credibilty and be able to show Derry that we were serious partners and that we had a committee that represented all of the town.

She held a meeting up at her offices with some of the Moville Events committee to put the plan forward which has now been adopted and the committee is now up and running and ready to take what Katrina Doherty describes as "Moville's best chance in several generations".

Charlie

I'm sure this guy Charlie McConologue is very good and I'm told he has a politics degree and wrote speeches for Bertie Ahern.

However, I've never met him in Gillen's or Centra or down the Green or in Rosatos.

I'm sure he would do a good job but the main beneficiaries of that would be the people of Carn as they would bump into him most.

One doesn't know what would happen to Cecilia's Seanad seat after any election.

No One

Thank goodness Martin Farren came with that late run to win his Council seat or Moville might have been left shortly with no one that they can go to to get something done.

I was hoping that Martin would be standing for Labour at the next election but the nomination has been given to someone else.

I don't think I'll bother to vote if there is no one from here standing.

I couldn't see the point.
