An Grianan Hotel in Burt will be the venue for a special Irish Night on Tuesday 16th March, when the Inishowen GAA Board host a gala night of Irish music, song, storytelling and Ceili dancing, providing a great opportunity to get your St Patrick’s celebrations off to an early start.

 

Various musicians, solo singers and Irish dancers from GAA clubs around the peninsula will provide lots of early entertainment, while on stage and making his first official visit to the popular Inishowen venue, will be special guest Danny McGilloway, who has a big reputation as an Irish Folk Singer and someone who also has strong Donegal connections in his blood.

 

 

Against the Grain

 

 

In fact the Derry singer once wrote a song about Burt, which appeared in the award winning local GAA club History book “Against the Grain”.

 

Danny McGilloway is also well known as an artist but has made his name particularly as a renowned musician, singer/songwriter and storyteller in Irish folk circles, having performed far and wide as a solo artiste and is an ex-member of one time famous folk bands, Thundering Down and Tansy’s Fancy.

 

 

Top Names

 

 

In the past he has graced the same stage with some famous names such as Paddy Reilly, Frances Black, Dolores Keane and the Dublin City Ramblers, playing throughout England, Scotland, Jersey and Europe as well as many parts of Ireland.

 

Danny was also very privileged to be commissioned to provide the musical soundtrack of Irish Music along with some of his original material, for a unique American documentary about the troubles in Northern Ireland, working with famous Mexican director Jose Sanchez-Netel.

 

Glens of Antrim

 

 

He currently performs in Hotels, clubs, pubs and festivals throughout the Northwest of Ireland, and has also played a number of GAA clubs in Derry, Tyrone and Belfast as well as performing at folk nights in the Glens of Antrim, and he is also due to enter the recording studio shortly to record his first solo album.

 

 

The entertainment which is sure to attract all Irish music lovers, gets underway in the spacious Tuatha De Danann Centre at 10.00 pm with local musicians and dancers performing in the hotel bar from 9.00 pm and admission is only €5, which includes a good old Irish Supper.
