Unemployment
Unemployment has tripled in Inishowen since 2005 according to new figures out on the live register.
In 2005 there were 1,555 claimants.
Now there are 4,931.
That's more then treble what they were just 6 years ago.
Rose During Boom
Interestingly unemployment rose in 2006 and 2007 in Inishowen which was supposed to be still part of the boom period.
Each one of those is a mini-tragedy on its own.
There wil be those who will be wondering if they will ever work again.
Youngsters
Particularly badly hit in this downturn are our youngsters - supposedly our future.
Some of them have got degrees and can't get jobs.
More and more of them are looking to go abroad to get work, e.g. the UK, Australia and America.
If you got to any of the main cities in Australia you'll find a bunch of Moville's youngsters.
However, they are, in the main, not picking up skills that would do them much good here.
There's not much call for banana and pineapple pickers in Moville - or even in Derry.
Hope
There is hope for Moville and Greencastle, with the Clipper race in 2012, Derry's City of Culture in 2013 and the mooted Science Park on the border of Donegal and Derry which would be a massive boost if and when it comes to fruition.
However, this is still early 2011 - and it must seem all a long way off to those sitting at home on the dole.
