Battle
Before making my points I have to stress that I am looking at this battle from both a Moville viewpoint and a personal viewpoint.
A viewpoint from someone in Buncrana may well be different.
I also don't read the ads, the local Sport and only glance at even local pictures.
Time
So, in saying that, here's how long it took me to read the local newspapers today:-
16 mins - Inishowen Independent
13 mins - Tuesday Journal
10 mins - Inish Times
Moville
I think that the main reason for this is that the Inny Inny has a lot more Moville content this week - including good pictorial coverage of the Strictly Come Dancing in Moville.
I even looked at those pictures myself.
I also, obviously, read the articles about the TradFest in Moville which were in the Journal and Inny.
Front Pages
Looking at the three front pages - so important now when people are looking at piles of newspapers on counters and asking "which one will I buy?" I would have to give it to the Inny Inny - even though it was a Buncrana story.
It was about a mother who lost her son in a car accident 5 years ago.
Her and her family's heartbreak touched us all.
Pictures
The Inny also showed a front page picture of Moville's Strictly Come Dancing as did the Journal.
The Journal had a front page headline of "Lough Swilly Hotel Makes Way for Houses" which would be big news in Buncrana but would only be glanced at by Movillians.
Rubbish
The Inish Times went with a front page about yet another pile of tipped rubbish.
I did read it but there has been a lot of these stories.
I was only surprised there wasn't a local politician standing beside it - but it seems that it was up a mountain called Sliabh Sneacht.
Our local politicians are obviously not good climbers - even when a front page is at stake.
Fingered
The main constituent of the rubbish seemed to be babies nappies, paint tins and doors so the garda know who to look for - a local painter and decorator with a young child.
Again I have to stress that I am looking at it from a Moville point of view and the Inish Times may be seen differently in Buncrana and Carn this week - especially as the Henry Girls were on the cover.
Sales Down
The big story overall though has been that sales of the Inny and the Inish Times have been down whilst the Tuesday Journal has been largely unaffected and the Friday Journal sales are up heavily.
However, it is early days yet.
The Inish Times has the advantage of having a big organisation behind it and can outlast the Inny if sales of both remain down.
However, the Inny seems to be certainly 'up for it' and its Moville coverage has been good recently.
It's up for grabs - although the Inish Times remains the favourites to win of those in the know.
