Kevin Bond

Hi Gerry,

Thanks for getting back.

I couldn't get through to you via the craicon e-mail contact but eventually found dylanfest.com (linked via the craicon site sub-listed under Moville Festivals 2010) and used the contact page on the Dylan.com site.

Also Googled Gerry McLaughlin and found reference to what must have been your father visiting Moville after 58years ex River Row.

Carlins

He must have known the Carlins who lived next to the McJorgans (excuse if it’s not spelt this way) at least my Granny Carlin (Helen) the "wee Scotch lady" as she was sometimes known, as she was educated in Scotland and retained a Scottish lilt.

Apparently her father, my great maternal grandfather managed a distillery near Greenock but ensured my great grandmother always returned to Ireland to give birth to ensure their two daughters their Irish heritage.

I think my mother still has a cousin who lives in the greater Glasgow area.

Gleneely

Were you related to Phillip McLaughlin who owned a general stores, I think out Gleneely way?

He was my mother’s first cousin and my mother regarded him as a brother.

If I remember correctly Phillip was raised or at least spent a lot of his childhood with my mother’s Grannie Lafferty.

I think the Lafferty's lived then in what is now Barron’s B&B / Cafe.

Mother

My mother (Philomena Carlin) also had a first cousin Kathleen Doherty who lived a few miles out of Moville on the Malin Road.

I notice the McLaughlin's and Doherty's often appear on sites associated with Moville and I have met in the past a number of Kathleen’s sons and daughters.

I did exchange Christmas greetings for many years with one of Kathleen’s daughters, who was a teacher and moved to the Cork area, but lost contact.

DylanFest

It was while looking at old photos from Moville I first came across the Dylan Fest and thought it was such a coincidence with Phil's association with Moville and the Dylan Project and wondered whether there might be some mutual interest?

I will copy all this info to Phil.

Kind Regards

Kevin.
