Moville's Shore
There is a new Facebook site set up with the title Help Save Moville's Shore.
According to the website helping save Moville's Shore means stopping the Sewage Treatment Plant being built at Carnagarve.
Raw Sewage
It claims that this is a slap in the face for John Hume after being voted Ireland's Greatest Person.
It alos claims that, in event of a systems breakdown that sewage can be pumped into the Foyle several times a year without prosecution and that this will have an environmental impact on the Foyle.
The Opposition
Not all comments are positive though.
Some point out that at present sewage is pumped into the Foyle every day.
It could also be argued that the title is misleading as both sides could claim that building the sewage treatment plant would have a beneficial impact on Moville's shore.
Those that argue against the sewage treatment at Carnagarve say that they are not against a sewage treatment plant but that is shouldn't be place there but further up the Foyle so that it goes out to sea.
Too Expensive
Those that are for the sewage treatment plant at Carnagarve say it would be too expensive to site it further up the Foyle, that it is clean water that you could drink coming out of the plant, that there are not likely to be any systems malfunctions in a year and that this will make the Foyle much cleaner as raw sewage will no longer be pumped in on a daily basis.
Options
It would appear that the solutions are best in this order:-
1. Sewage treatment further up the Foyle so it goes out to sea
2. Sewage treatment at Carnagarve
3. The current situation with raw sewage streaming into the Foyle every day
For and Against
Those who are against the sewage treatment plant at Carnagarve are saying that the it has to be Option 1 and that they are not against having a sewage treatment plant.
Those who are for the treatment plant at Carnagarve would prefer it to be futher downstream as well but as that is considered too expensive then it would be better to have it at Carnagarve than have the current situation continue.
Many of them believe that those that live near Carnagarve just want it anywhere else except near their houses as they think it would bring down property prices.
Not So
The Carnagarve residenst say that this is not so and want a solution that doesn't put the shore in danger if the sewage treatment plant breaks down.
It seems that a decision is to be made soon and that the fur will start flying again soon.
