Limavady Borough Council has voted to give €30,000 to the Foyle Ferry to help save it for another year.
Donegal Council had already provided €30,000.
This will get it through for another year but it doesn't provide a long term fix.
Infrastructure
Very little is spent by the Government in infrastructure in Donegal.
It's probably the only county in Ireland without any railway services.
Also, the bus services from Derry and elsewhere to Moville and Greencastle stop about 7 o'clock - just like the ferry, meaning the whole area is cut off for non-drivers from 7pm till morning.
Blow
If the Foyle Ferry were to stop it would be a huge blow to the area with an average of nearly 300,000 passengers a year since it started.
With the Round-the-World Clipper race next year and Derry City of Culture 2013 the following year, let's hope that both the ferry and the area get a huge boost from those.
It's good news that the ferry has been saved until at least next year.
