Father Paddy
Father Paddy announces to stunned Mass goers that he would be leaving them and leaving the parish and Moville to go to a parish in Derry.
After the poignant departure of Father George, he came to the parish and made a huge impact.
Every week he had a good joke for the congregation.
Gospel Choir
The Gospel Choir started up under his watch too.
They sing every second week in the church to a very appreciative audience.
St. Pius's is one of the few churches in Ireland with a growing congregation.
Indeed I know one guy who started going to Mass again just to hear Fr Paddy's sermons and to hear the Gospel choir.
There was one week when not everyone could be fitted into church and the crowd splilled into the aisles and outside.
Huge Impact
Fr Paddy made a huge impact in Moville.
He came at a time when the Catholic church was taking a lot of stick, and deservedly so, over the abuse scandals.
Indeed there are only about 8 or so ordinations to the priesthood every year in Ireland now so a massive shortage of priests is coming our way.
When Father George went everyone was very sad and wondered how he could be replaced.
Then Father Paddy came in and made a huge difference.
Man of the Year
He had a lively column in the Inish Times too.
CraicOn.com made him the Moville Man of the Year for 2008.
He will be sorely missed by not just his parishioners but the whole of Moville.
He came into Moville like a whirlwind and his departure will leave a huge vacuum.
Moville will not see his like again.
