Inishowen Action Group

It took to the 5th meeting in total but finally the Committee for the East Inishowen Action Group was elected last night.

It is representative of most of the festival areas plus the businesses.

There's 13 altogether which some may see as an unlucky number but they are looking to co-opt a young person from the area as well as someone from the transport industry.

The members are as follows - Martin Farren (Chairperson), Declan Carey (Vice Chair), Diane McIntyre (Treasurer), Katrina Doherty (PRO), Harold McGuiness (Secretary), Gerry McLaughlin, Noel Doherty, Egon Callery, John Putt, Billy Tighe, Eddie Harkin, Danny McDonald, Damien O’Donnell.

Moville Events

The idea of the committee was born from Moville Events which was set up in 2008 but had lapsed.

The reason for a revival and expansion were to have a group that could represent East Inishowen in order to take advantage of the opportunities arriving from Derry's City of Culture in 2013 (for which there is £89m available in funding) and the Clipper Race in 2012.

It would also facilitate the different groups getting funidng for the events that they currently run plus new events and to represent the area's interests.

Getting Organised

The next stage is to get organised as a proper committee with proper Agendas, Action Points and Tracking and to link up with Derry to find out the possibilities of partnership and mutual cooperation.

Letterkenny and Buncarna, with their Town Councils and Chambers of Commerce are already aheahd of us and are talking to Derry now.

However, Moville and East Inishowen has advantages that they don't have - like sharing the same stretch of water (and it's a much nicer place).

Now Moville also has a cross-sectional representative Action Group which can now take the first steps in partnering with Derry.
