Moville
There's nothing doing in Moville's local economy at the moment.
If anything it is getting worse.
Indeed November was probably the worst month for the local economy in many years.
December hasn't been much better so far but the Christmas pick-up is due.
Bleak Months
It will have to last a long time as the bleak months of January and February aren't much better.
And only St. Patrick's Day gives any cheer to March and April.
Local businessmen are saying that there is no sign of the local economy picking up at all.
No Future
Indeed they are saying that they see no sign in the future either.
So much of Moville's economy was based on the construction boom - and another construction boom seems a long way off.
The economy has to pick up for a good few years before you get a construction boom.
Derry
However, Derry is going in the opposite direction - no doubt helped by the weak pound and the number of people now shopping there from Donegal.
My bank is down there and I popped into Sainsbury's for some Pain Au Raisin and some other goods that you can't get in Moville (and some that you can get).
Rushed
I asked the guy behind one of the counters how things were going there.
He said that they were rushed off their feet.
That had been the case for the last few weeks.
Taxi
I got a taxi back to Moville and asked the taxi driver how things were going for him and generally in Derry.
Taxi drivers are always a good indicator of the local economy.
He told me that things had really picked up there over the last month or so.
Knock on Effect
There's nothing doing in Moville so let's hope a booming Derry has a knock on effect on Moville and that if they have more money in their pockets they might come up and spend some of it in Moville.
And sterling is even starting to nudge the right way.
