Danger in Moville

Moville

The snow is still lying in Moville.

There is not likely to be a major thaw anytime soon.

It is not forecast to go above 3 degrees till New Year's Eve.

Ice

However, already a thick layer of ice is developing under the snow.

It is going to get very slippy over the next few days as more of the snow melts and then is frozen overnight.

There is less than 7 hours of daylight at the moment so there is no great opportunity for a thaw.

The gritter has been out reasonably early this time on the main roads but the grit is spread quite thinly and roads other than the main roads remain ungritted.

Danger

Another danger is the huge amount of snow on the roofs.

I've already heard two major crashes as the snow has fallen off the roof on my back house.

The snow will come crashing off the roofs of every house in Moville at some point and it is to be hoped that there will be no one underneath at the time.

There are also a lot of icicles dangling from the roofs and I've already seen a number crashing to the ground.

Advice

It is advisable to walk towards the edge of pavements and not just a yard or so out from the walls in case the snow comes crashing down.

People are no longer used to dealing with snow every year and several times a year.

I wouldn't have thought that the schools would be on tomorrow but there have been no announcements so far.

I suppose the thing to do is just to enjoy it while it is here.

We probably won't see its like again for another 30 years.

Whatever happened to global warming though?
