Dandelions rampant in Moville at the moment

Dandelions

My father, who is 82, says he has never seen so many dandelions growing in Moville.

Those cutting their grass on their lawns are seeing the stems popping up again very sharply afterwards.

It may be the late spring and the lack of rainfall which is causing these weeds with deep roots to flourish.

Name

Incidentally the name Dandelion comes from the French Dents de Lions which means Teeth of Lions or Lions Teeth.

Strangely the French don't call them that.

They call them pis-de-lis - which is Pea-the-Beds.

Putting Green

Whatever, they are causing a nuisance this year to those who like to keep their lawns in good condition.

The Putting Green people are putting down weed killer at the moment to try to get rid of weeds like dandelions and also the moss.

Hopefully that should mean the Putting Green should be again in a couple of weeks.
