Pitch & Putt
After the opening of the Putting Green Cafe in Bath Green last weekend it was great to see Cooley Pitch & Putt opening this weekend.
It wasn't advertised or announced but the weather was great so Seamus Harkin decided to open up.
News travels fast in Moville so he was surprised how many people came and played.
Downturn
Seamus is very sensitive to the downturn that is hitting Moville.
Two years ago it was €7 for an 18-hole game of Pitch & Putt.
Last year it was €6.
This year the price is now €5 for a game (with a one Euro deposit which you get back at the end of the game).
So, it's come down by a Euro in each of the past two years.
Coming Down
Seamus asked me if I had been up for a game yet.
"I'll wait another two or three years" I replied.
Recession Sensitive
It's great to see a business that is recession sensitive though.
If people can't afford it then cut the price till they can, seems to be the motto.
It's good business sense too as, having a couple of games is now a tenner rather than the €14 it was two years ago.
Great Setting
It's a fantastic setting for a game with its great views over Lough Foyle.
It's quite a tricky course as well.
I've often had cause to be glad that the houses on the other side of the road from the 18th hole at Cooley Pitch & Putt are relatively new and have double glazed solid windows.
Let's hope Seamus gets his reward this year for cutting prices by 28% in a recession by getting lots more business.
