Challenge
Local man Enda Craig, who is a leading light in the Carnagarve Group, who seek to stop the Sewage Treatment Plant being set up at Carnagarve slammed what he calls Council Propaganda when they say that the water that will be pumped into Lough Foyle at Carnagarve will be so good that it will be drinkable.
"That's what they tell you" said Enda.
"They know very well that for every 100 millitres of water pumped into the Foyel 50,000 CFUs of sewage will go with it - and 100 millilitres of water is only a cupful.
Challenge
"I'll issue a challenge to them. I'll come to a Council meeting at Lifford and when they have their teas and coffees poured I'll ask them if they would like me to pour 50,000 CFUs of sewage into it.
"We'll see then who puts their mouth where their money is. If they won't drink it then why would they force our children to swim in it".
According to Enda, sewage of this concentration will be pumped int Lough Foyle 24-hours a day and seven days a week.
Tests
Said Enda "they won't even wait for favourable tides. Our tests show that when the tide is against them this sewage will flow right back onto the shore where bathers will be paddling about and swimming in it".
The decision is to be made on Novemeber 17th, and if as expected, it is given the go-ahead, the Treatment Plant will be built in very quick order after that.
Said Enda "Unknown to our group a Facebook website called Help Save Moville's Shore has been set up by the younger people of the area and there are already well over 400 mostly youngsters signed up for it.
"It's great to see them caring about our town and its waters - but let's hope it's not too late".
