Beatles Road Manager turns down Paul in Toronto for BeatlesFest in Moville

Tony Bramwell was a friend of the Beatles from his earliest days and was there the day that John and Paul first met up.

He was there at a Summer Fete with his childhood friend George Harrison.

He became Beatles Road Manager after he asked George if he could carry his guitar into the first ever Beatles gig so he could get in free.

After that John asked him if he would carry his guitar too and then Paul said “can you carry mine too?”.

Soon after Brian Epstein appointed him official Beatles Road Manager and he was with them from the start to the end.

Keeps In Touch

He still keeps in touch with Paul. Indeed Paul called him up and said “I’m playing Nashvillle for the first time on July 27th. Want to come over?” so Tony hotfooted across the Atlantic.

While there Paul said to him “I’m playing Toronto on the 8th and 9th of August. Want to come back over for that?”

“Sorry” said Tony, “I’m booked for the BeatlesFest on the Lough in Moville and am flying there on the 11th so I can’t fit your Toronto gig in”.

He Knows

Said BeatlesFest organiser Gerry McLaughlin “People have often asked me if Bob Dylan knows about our DylanFest in Moville. I answer that if he Googled DylanFest then our festival would come up first.

"However, I don’t really know if he knows about it or not. It is gratifying to know, though, that Paul McCartney knows about our BeatlesFest in Moville – and I hope that he is not too miffed that his old buddy has chosen us over him”.

Love, Love, Love

Said Tony “I’ve been doing these kind of gigs for about 10 years now and just love meeting people who love The Beatles and who want to talk about them. I also love Guinness as brewed in Ireland so I’m hoping to partake of a few of those too”.

“It’s not bad, is it?” he said. “I started with The Beatles at 15 and now I’m 65 and I’ve met all of my heroes and become good friends with many of them.

"I’ve also become friends with others like Bruce Springsteen. It’s been a wild ride – and all because I asked George if I could carry his guitar to get in free to see The Beatles first ever concert”.
